( a series of posts I’ve concatenated here from Dec 27, 2016) Here is the thing about Carrier Fisher for me. Like most folks of my approximate age I was introduced to her via A New Hope and her experience really matched mine in the broad sense of being (or trying to be) a kick-ass girl in a whole room full of boys. Each of those Star Wars movies really only had her (as a woman) in a true speaking part. She completely fell off my radar except for the occasional news story about her addiction.
The stuff I do isn’t very flashy, at least not very often. (Chop wood, carry water.) I drive folks to the grocery store or pick them up from BART. Write articles that share information (informed populace is a less fearful one). I read as widely as I can. Most of my stuff is one-on-one with one large exception but I feel like my work is to facilitate that one-on-one conversation. And when that doesn’t work? Well.
