new moon // just do it

My bones ached along the waning of the moon. A feeling like wanting to run and not being able to move. Not quite trapped, not quite free. I’m waiting for something. I’m ready for something.

This is not a time for mourning, I hear between the rains. This is not a time for falling to pieces and kneeling on the ground. Now is the time to look up, look around, grab the tools you already have, and get started.

For me, I need to go beyond words in order to find out what I must call into my life. Words are just whispers and while they are sometimes the harbingers of change, they are also so small.

Into the music. Let’s go there. Close your eyes and move the places of your body that want to move. Stretch and tense and bend and sway. Sometimes with the music, sometimes stepping right into the place I need to be.

I see a snake goddess.

I see the black ring tattoos around my arms.

I know my thighs need to be stronger because there’s a fight ahead.

None of it makes sense in the daylight.

All of it makes sense under the moon.

I follow my own feet around the room, across the wooden floor that seems like forest. Past beloveds who are only presences, not persons. We dance together, but we do not dance to the same rhythms.

The body becomes the spell when the head sits down. The heart becomes a muscle of insistence and yes-this-is-what-you-need-to-do. The sweat becomes a song and a promise to keep moving.

No matter what.

I (sort of) know we’re moving into a time of knowing…or so the stars say. In this world where nothing seems true (enough), all I know is this. All I feel is this.

Open. Arrive. Do the thing.

Do all the things.

Be the moment that calls you.

Be your name spoken aloud.

Be the song of your own being.

Be the one you’ve been waiting for.

And do it now.

There can be no more waiting or wondering if you’re good enough or clear enough.

There can be no more wondering if you have a clear plan or if someone won’t agree.

There can be no more sleeplessness nights wrapped in the ‘what if’ of everything.

Take a breath.

And go forward

any way you can

any way you know.

About the Author

I'm a Witch, a priestess, international teacher, often-vegan, invocateur, ritualist, drummer, writer, moon devotee, Sagittarius, and Reclaiming initiate. I am committed to facilitating community growth and connection through ritual creation, storytelling, moon magick, drumming, and embracing beauty in all of its forms. And I am delightfully devoted to Aphrodite, Hecate, Iris, and the Norns. You’ll often find me writing poetry, singing to the moon, crafting songs, and looking for a snack. Here, I'll be writing about the moon, ritual, rewriting personal and collective stories, and poetry. And letting inspiration take the lead.
